No network can be bulletproofed against data leakages and data thefts, but most exit points and vulnerable spots can be covered and risks can decrease significantly. Macs can represent a weakness in the network if they are not aligned with Windows protection policies, not to mention the networks composed solely of Macs. Insider threat is one of the most common and disregarded source of data breaches. Employees or members of an organization can easily carry confidential data out of the network with HDDs, memory cards, thumb drives, etc. which can get into the wrong hands. At the same time, harm can be done as easy as sending an e-mail to the wrong recipients or putting sensitive information on iCloud, Dropbox, Google Drive, sending it by Skype, Facebook etc. A Data Loss Prevention software for Mac OS X is a key component of the data protection policy and it can prevent the previous mentioned situations with multiple permissions and filters.
This speaking session will present Endpoint Protector, the only DLP solution to work with Mac OS X. A live demonstration of the software will be held and different ways to implement Content-Aware Data Loss Prevention and Device Control on Macs will be presented, along with the pros and cons of each one.
