Mac and iOS Security Threat Trends – What Do the Hackers Want (and how they get it)?
Cameron Camp, Security Researcher, ESET North America
While security threats are nothing new to the Apple IT ecosystem, they are changing at a macro level, from past proofs-of-concepts and juvenile shenanigans years ago, to today’s fully-fledged targeted attacks against high value targets. Too often those targets are unaware of the true nature and scale of today’s threats and thus poorly-defended. In this talk, we separate the hype from the reality (spoiler alert: it is still okay to use your OS X/iOS devices, the sky is not falling). We talk about the trends in threats and the future of attacks against the Apple platforms. We explain how the Apple threatscape differs from Microsoft Windows and Android mobile attacks we’ve studied in the past because users interact and treat data in very different ways today (and the hackers know it). We then present a vendor-neutral guide to appropriate security responses that help keep us all more safe.

It’s a Mac, Mac World and Data Loss Prevention Should Be a Part of It
Zoran Cocoara, Sales and Business Development Manager, Endpoint Protector by CoSoSys
Some of the biggest data breaches episodes of the last few years, from Target Corp. to Home Depot., share a common thread. Microsoft Corp. platforms were involved at some level. The most common explanation for the frequency of attacks on Microsoft platforms is that they are more or less everywhere, creating a bigger and more lucrative market opportunity for hackers. However, things are changing. Macs are more and more popular in enterprises and, regardless of the smaller number of attacks directed to Macs or the malware spread to OS X, there is still the threat of malicious and non-malicious insiders. Without proper Data Loss Prevention tools in place, insiders can send sensitive information to recipients outside of the company network. Learn about the role of DLP for OS X.
